Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Affirms Strong Cambodia-India Relations During Courtesy Meeting with New Indian Ambassador

Phnom Penh — On May 7, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Koeut Rith, received Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of India to Cambodia, in a courtesy call at the Ministry of Justice.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Koeut Rith extended warm congratulations and expressed his appreciation for the appointment of Bawitlung as the Indian Ambassador. The two officials discussed the longstanding bilateral relationship between Cambodia and India, with particular emphasis on further strengthening cooperation in the legal and judicial sectors.

Both leaders highlighted the importance of finalizing and expanding legal agreements, notably the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and the draft Treaty on Extradition. These agreements are expected to enhance legal cooperation, facilitate the fight against transnational crime, and promote justice based on mutual understanding and collaboration.

The discussion underscored Cambodia’s commitment to deepening diplomatic ties and expanding cooperation in legal affairs, aligning with broader efforts to promote rule of law, good governance, and regional stability. The meeting also reaffirmed Cambodia’s openness to strengthening international partnerships that contribute to national development and regional stability.
